Silent Hill f, the latest installment in the long-running Japanese horror series, has sold over 1 million copies across both physical and digital sales on the official release date of the game. The publisher behind the series, Konami, confirmed this news via a press statement, as well as on the franchise’s Japanese Twitter account page, thanking “everyone who played” for exceeding the million copies shipped mark just a day after its September 25th release. Konami did not distinguish how many of these sales were on September 25 versus how many were digital deluxe editions, which granted players early access to the title prior to that date.
Konami stated:
This achievement reinforces the series’ status as an iconic horror franchise that continues to resonate with fans yearning for an unsettling psychological horror experience. Through the lens of Silent Hill f, players dive into a haunting narrative by Ryukishi07 based on a ‘beautiful yet horrifying’ artistic vision.
These sales are great news for fans who were waiting for Silent Hill and Konami to re-enter gaming and bring back franchises that were dormant following the company’s shift to mobile and pachinko games, where Konami has stated they make more profit. Silent Hill 2 Remake, released last year in October, sold 1 million copies in only a few days as well, and was announced to have reached the 2 million sales mark in January of the following year. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, released last month, similarly hit the 1 million sales mark in under a day. In all cases, Konami has been quick to tout them as successes.
Silent Hill f is technically a standalone spin-off of the series at large. Set in 1960s Japan, players take the role of Hinako, who finds herself at the center of a Silent Hill nightmare in her hometown, including thick fog, murderous monsters, and terrifying moments. Fans also have another remake by Bloober Team, this one of the original Silent Hill from 1997, to look forward to.
