Publisher Focus Entertainment has announced that third-person shooter title Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has hit the major milestone of selling 7 million copies of their title in under a year. Developed by Saber Interactive, Space Marine 2 was released in September of 2024, which means that this huge accomplishment was reached in a little under nine months.
While this number is impressive, continued success was expected given how well the game performed at launch. During its initial month, the game sold 4.5 million units, accounting for slightly over half the total amount of sales. Space Marine 2 performed so well that Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, stated that it “Changes everything” about how the developer plans to handle games moving forward.
As a direct result of Spice Marine 2‘s success, the owner of the tabletop game on which it is based, Games Workshop, saw a significant increase in royalty revenue across last year’s business. Despite taking nearly a decade for a sequel to the 2011 game to get announced, Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive wasted no time stating that, because of this success, Space Marine 3 is already in development, which was officially announced back in March.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is currently seeing new content through its year one roadmap being released. The title Siege Update (Patch 8) is also expected to be released soon. For players looking to expand their Warhammer library, there are a few games in the series worth checking out, such as Darktide, the spiritual successor to Vermintide, and Rogue Trader, a tactical RPG that any fan of Baldur’s Gate III would get a lot of enjoyment out of. Other titles like Mechanicus 2 and Boltgun 2 are currently in development and set to release soon.
