PlayStation has revealed new details concerning the release plans for Santa Monica Studio’s upcoming game, God of War Laufey. These details were outlined in a PlayStation Blog post, along with several new screenshots, one of which is of particular interest to fans. Set to release on February 16, 2027, Pre-orders for the title will open on September 29th at 10:00 AM, with it getting both a Standard edition as well as a Digital Deluxe.
The standard edition of the title will be available both physically and digitally and will be sold through PlayStation and retailers. God of War Laufey will have a preorder bonus available that includes the Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance* (cosmetic), and an in-game resource pack, with these available no matter the version you preorder.
A Digital Deluxe edition will also be available exclusively through the PlayStation Digital Store. This version will include:
- Dark Alchemy Armor Set*
- Dark Alchemy Blade*
- Dark Alchemy Bow Scales*
- Dark Alchemy Catalyst*
- In-Game Resource Pack
- Digital Mini Artbook
- Official God of War Laufey Digital Soundtrack
God of War Laufey is a spin-off of the popular PlayStation exclusive God of War series, starring Laufey (or Faye), the wife of the series protagonist Kratos, shortly after her death, which starts the narrative of the 2018 game. Here, we find the character in the Everywhen, an afterlife for the gods that blends multiple religions, from the Far Eastern faiths like Shintoism to Egyptian mythology. Because of this, one picture featured in the Blog post has garnered some attention.
Obviously, Kratos was expected to appear in some capacity. In the image, we see protagonist Laufey interacting with her husband. While his full beard that was featured in the Norse set games remains, the setting itself appears to be that of an Ancient Greek Temple, suggesting a return to the location. How this area will be featured remains to be seen, so this could be a narrative set piece of an entire area to explore.
We do know that Santa Monica Studio is working on full remakes of the first three games in the series, something they announced in February 2026 during a State of Play. While nothing was showcased then, this area or characters within it might share assets. In that regard, Laufey could be our first look at their plans for those titles. Rumors have also placed the next God of War game in Egypt, which we also know is present, so that gap could be bridged here as well.
