Nintendo has announced that it will be launching a physical copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition that will include the title’s DLC, Mega Dimension, bundled with it. The complete version of the game is scheduled to be released on cartridge on October 29, The Pokémon Company confirmed earlier today. While the version being released is a Nintendo Switch 2 version, the company has confirmed it will be backwards compatible, able to run on the Nintendo Switch with reduced specs and performance.
Pokémon Legends Z-A is the second title in the Legends series of Spin-off titles. Set in a modern Lumiose City, which first appeared in X and Y, the game takes a more action-oriented approach to the combat featured in the Pokémon series. Players take on the role of a trainer new to the city who becomes involved in the Z-A Royale tournament, in which players train in designated areas of the city, building their Pokémon team, then competing against trainers to rise the ranks from the starting point of Z all the way to A. To do so, the player participates in real-time combat against other trainers, issuing commands to their Pokémon while controlling the trainer themself.
Mega Dimension was released last October for the title as a separate download. It expanded the main narrative of the game and tasked the player with investigating distortions around the city that are destabilizing space and time. To do this, they need to travel through the distortions to an alternate area known as hyperspace Lumiose. The DLC also added a score of additional Pokémon to the game, as well as allowing players to boast their Pokémon beyond level 100. As part of this bundle, players will also receive a gift of 100 Ultra Balls to start their journey off right.
The timing of this bundled re-release makes sense, given this is one of the few times Nintendo has not had a new Pokémon title in the mainline for the holiday season. Next year will see the release of the 10th generation of the series with Pokémon Winds and Waves, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Fans planning on finally picking up Z-A will at least have access to the full experience with this bundle. Those looking for a slower-paced game: Pokémon Pokopia, an Animal Crossing-style life sim released earlier this year to rave reviews.
