Control Resonant has crossed the one million mark for copies sold, becoming the fastest-selling Remedy title. This is even after leakers and pirates managed to crack the game back in September, following the title’s digital release. Remedy took to social media to celebrate this new milestone on October 15, the release date for the physical version of the game, by thanking fans for all their support. Remedy’s communications director, Tomas Puha, also took to social media to say, “There we go, Strong Start.”
This means, in the grand scheme of things, Control Resonant is outpacing Alan Wake II in terms of sales, which previously held that record despite taking a while to break even in terms of profit. The sequel to their classic action horror title achieved the one million figure in around 2 months, while Control Resonant has managed to secure that figure just three weeks after going on sale. Previously, Remedy had confirmed plans to launch their most aggressive ad campaign event, in which the game appears in almost every major event with some form of trailer, a move that has clearly paid off.
This is made even better given that there was audience pushback against the pirated version of the title, with fans encouraging others to purchase and support this title. While it is unclear just how Remedy is struggling financially, the company has seen a decline in profit, with games like Firebreak failing to find an audience. Similarly, the slow return on investment from Alan Wake II has kept the company in a precarious position going into the release of Control Resonant.
Remedy is currently also developing a remake bundle of the first two Max Payne titles that they developed in 2001 and 2003, respectively. They are making the titles in conjunction with Rockstar Games, which published the titles originally and developed the third title in the franchise without the input of Remedy. There is no release date for these titles as of yet, but thanks to these sales figures, it appears that Remedy will be able to focus on it without the same concerns.
