Transformers: Reactivate Cancelled With Dev Team Facing Potential Layoffs

Developer Slash Damage has announced that their previously announced game Transformers: Reactivate, based on the popular cartoon and toy brand, has been canceled. It was announced 2 years ago at the Video Game Awards back in 2022.

The studio made this announcement Via X(formerly Twitter), sharing the “very difficult news” before sharing that “A number of roles” were “potentially at risk of redundancy.” After being announced in 2022, the online live service title set in the Transformers universe was stated to have a beta coming in 2023. This of course never seemed to pan out, being perpetually delayed until this full cancellation announcement.

A representative of Splash Damage stated:

This decision did not come lightly, and it is a difficult time for the studio and our people. We want to take a moment to thank the team who worked on Transformers for their dedication and passion.

While the wording of the statement suggested Lay-offs were an option being explored, later statements suggest the decision to move forward on these terminations is more of an expectation rather than a possibility. Given the lay-offs that have plagued the last few years in the industry, this will start 2025 off on a very similar foot.

    It was stated that:

While not being able to see the game through to release is painful, having to say goodbye to friends and colleagues hurts even more. We’re now focused on doing everything we can to support them through this tough period, just as we are committed to caring for those who stay with us as we build a stronger Splash Damage for the future.

Transformers: Reactivate was previously described as a one to four-player online action game that was set to release across both Console and PC. In an official synopsis, the plot was outlined as:

The gravest threat to humanity has arrived, and it’s already won. Earth is no longer ours; it belongs to them. All we have left is our hope for the Autobots, as we salvage them from the rubble left behind.
