Saber Interactive Insists All Their Projects Still In Development, Including Knights of The Old Republic

Saber Interactive, the studio behind games like Mudrunner and Warhammer 40k: Space Marines 2, has insisted that all its previously announced projects are still in development in some capacity. This includes the remake of Bioware’s classic RPG Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic, the IP remaining quiet for some time.

Saber Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits made this announcement via X (formerly Twitter), assuring fans that everything announced was still in the pipeline. He stated:

Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share.

The titles Saber Interactive currently has in development include the action adventure game Jurassic Park: Survival, a reboot for the Painkiller Franchise, the multiplayer title Turok: Origins, and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Of course, the most glaring inclusion in this list is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Originally announced in 2021, Kotor was stated to be produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Originally, Aspyr was attached to develop the title, a studio best known up to then for porting classic Star Wars IPs to mobile and Switch. A full remake proved to much for other studios. As rumors suggested, Sony had not been happy with the progress they had made and pulled the development of the game from them. Development would switch hands multiple times after this. All of this was under Embracer Group’s watch, who at the time had become synonymous with projects that didn’t materialize and studio closers. This was until April 2024, when Saber Interactive broke with Embracer Group and announced they had secured the KOTOR IP in the process. In Saber’s defense, they have had a much better track record with game releases.

At the time, Saber Interactive’s CEO Matthew Karch stated:

It’s clear and it’s obvious that we’re working on this. It’s been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we’re dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations.

Of course, this was nearly 12 months ago, and yet again, there has been no additional news of the title, only more rumors of its cancellation or troubled development. Though there is some hope in this statement that there is a path forward for the Knights of The Old Republic, questions, like if SIE is still producing it, remain unclear.

As if the studio doesn’t have enough on their plate, they also announced that Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 3 was also in development following the success of Space Marine 2 last year. The studio has stated this follow-up “Promises an even immersive experience.”
