Among the many games showcased when the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced, a large emphasis was placed on recent releases being ported to the platform, as a showcase of its increased hardware. One such game was Star Wars Outlaws, the Ubisoft open-world title that sees players traversing across both new and returning planets as they take part in a heist with major ramifications for the galaxy far, far away.
As it turns out, Star Wars Outlaws will not be releasing alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 but will be arriving on the system on September 5th, according to Ubisoft. This shouldn’t be too shocking, as several ports appear to be doing the horizon past the platform’s release on June 5th, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Elden Ring also slated for the near future.
Star Wars Outlaws was originally released on August 30th for the Xbox Series, PS5, and PC. At the time, it had skipped the Nintendo Switch, presumably due to hardware limitations on the 8-year-old system. While Ubisoft did not give any specific details concerning the title, such as when benchmarks we can expect it to hit on the Switch 2, which boasts 4k and 60fps in docked mode to 12fps in handheld, the does speak to the power jump we should be able to expect between the generations of hardware.
This news was announced during the Star Wars Celebration in Japan, where the title’s second story pack, entitled A Pirate’s Fortune, was also showcased. At the time of release, Star Wars: Outlaws had a lot of issues, with one of the biggest being forced stealth sections, which was a turn-off during my playthrough. Since then, a large amount of criticism of the game has been addressed through patches and updates. While I have yet to dive back into the game, Nintendo Switch 2 players should be looking at a more complete version of the game that you can play at home or on the go.
