Developer Hangar 13 has confirmed that Mafia: The Old Country will feature PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced features at launch, rather than being patched in post-launch, which has become a popular trend among recently released titles. Prior to this, it was confirmed that the title set to release on August 8th would feature both a Performance mode and a Quality mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. This news was confirmed by Hanger 13 via their official Twitter account.
This enhanced mode will include a variable refresh rate, a 120Hz display, as well as a higher dynamic resolution option available in both Quality and Performance versions of the option. This news also shortly follows the announcement of several PC options for the game, which include options like an uncapped framerate, anti-aliasing and upscaling, ultrawide monitor support, and more.
On PS5 and Xbox, Mafia: The Old Country will all at 60fps in Performance mode, while Quality mode will maintain fewer frames for a high visual resolution. Hanger 13 stated about this, “Players who want to prioritize higher resolution and visual fidelity should select Quality Mode, while players who prefer to prioritize framerate should select Performance Mode.”
Mafia: The Old Country is a prequel to the series at large, with the original title of the series being set in the 1930s. Set in the early 1900s, this game in the series will see players take the role of Enzo Favara in Sicily, who falls into the mafia in a precursor to the American crime families and the Five point Families that would eventually become famous in America. It is developed by Hanger 13, a team created to develop Mafia III, which followed the Black Mafia in 1960s Louisiana. In between these two games, the team was also tapped to reboot the Top Spin tennis series, developing Top Spin 2k25.
