A listing for Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, a sequel to the third-person co-op shooter from 2021, has appeared online, despite the game having yet to be announced. The website for the Entertainment Software Rating Board, or ESRB, has a listing for the title, stating that it will be rated M for Blood and Gore, Strong Language, and Violence. It also lists the title as releasing for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
While no developer is listed on the ESRB page, the publisher is given as Daybreak Game Company LLC. This is notable as, while it was reported that Daybreak Games was in the process of acquiring Cold Iron Studios in 2020, the studio behind the development of Alien: Fireteam Elite in, the studio was actually aquired by Daybreak’s parent company Enad Global in December of 2020. Most likely, Cold Iron will again be the developer, but it is possible that the IP was given to another studio.
There is no current news as to when Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will be announced, but the rumors have been that an announcement is imminent. It has been suggested that the game, codenamed Project Macondo, is intended to release before the end of 2025, and with only 3 months left in the year, an announcement within the month would make sense, but this is just speculation. Unannounced games do often get leaked to the public through ESRB listings, as any game submitted to them needs to be publicly available, but this is also usually a late stage in the process of releasing the game, offering at least some credibility to this.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite, which is a co-op action game in which a team contends with alien hordes in a similar game type to the classic Left 4 Dead. While the game initially saw positive sales and reviews, a significant playerbase decline was seen shortly after. The title has recently seen an uptick in players, owing in part to its addition to Xbox Game Pass, which coincided with the release of the FX series Aliens: Earth.
In other Alien news, the VR title Alien: Rogue Incursions, which was released earlier this year, saw a wider release in September with a non-VR version. The extremely popular Alien: Isolation has also been announced to have a sequel in development at Creative Assembly.
