Square Enix has announced that several Final Fantasy Remastered Titles will be getting physical releases on the Nintendo Switch. Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII will be getting a twin pack containing both games, with Final Fantasy IX releasing individually on a physical cartridge. In addition to this, the company also announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, the two entries released in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy thus far, will also be receiving a twin pack containing both parts on the PlayStation 5. All of these titles are slated to release on December 9th of this year.

Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX are the titles of the series that were released on the original PlayStation in 1997, 1999, and 2000, respectively. They contain the franchise’s classic active time battle combat, though each has its own take on the ATB system. VII, for its part, has long been held as one of the greatest RPG games to be released, with both other entries having been popular in their own right. At the time, VIII was considered to be a drastic departure for the series, with IX having been looked at as a return to the series’ roots with the use of high fantasy rather than the techno fantasy of its previous two entries. Both the VII and VII Twin pack, as well as the IX remaster, will be $39.99.

Final Fantasy VII Remake, released in 2020, is an expanded version of the original story of the 1997 title, adding new characters and narrative, with the first title in the series chronicling the main party’s time in the city of Midgar, making what was around 2-4 hours in the original title a near 40-hour RPG experience. The Remake changes the traditional ATB system from the original in favor of a more action-oriented combat system similar to that of XV. Intergrade, which is included with it in the dual pack, adds an additional story in which the player takes control of Yuffie in a narrative building up to her eventual introduction in Rebirth. Released in 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth received universal acclaim, becoming one of the highest-rated games in the series, and was nominated for multiple Game of the Year awards. This twin pack will be $59.99.

Preorders for these games’ physical versions and dual packs are now through the Square Enix store.
