Sol Shogunate, A Samurai Action Game Set In Space, Announced For PlayStation 5

New studio Chaos Manufacturing has announced its debut title, Sol Shogunate, which looks like it should delight fans of games such as Stellar Blade, Black Myth: Wukong, Ghost of Yotei, and Ninja Gaiden 4, to name a few. In it, you play as a Samurai fighting armies and shoguns through a technologically advanced sci-fi space landscape made up of traditional iconography, mixed with more modern ones.

In Sol Shogunate, players take the roles of Yuzuki, a lone survivor from a once-powerful samurai family. After a rival clan murders her family, she does the obvious and begins to carve a path of revenge in full Lady Snowblood style. The game is set on the moon, across several megacities. These Lunar Glass cities, as they are referred to, will feature several ecosystems for the main character to fight her way through, as well as space elevators and high-speed rails with Earth in the backdrop.

To fight your way through this world, Yuzuki will bring fast-paced combat featuring her Katana. The game will focus on precision and timing, with deflecting attacks to create openings to slash your enemies apart being a major component. Yuzuki herself is genetically modified, opening up just how she can react in the moment, as well as exploit weaknesses of your foes.

In an official article from PlayStation Blog, CEO of Chaos Manufacturing, Guy Costantini described the game, saying:

SOL Shogunate is Chaos Manufacturing’s love letter to Japan, as every member has been deeply inspired by its history, culture, and media. Each metropolis on the moon, for example, draws inspiration from a different era of Japanese history. These environments act as both living spaces and reflections of the shogunate’s reach across the solar system. To navigate these zones, players will traverse vertical districts using gravity assist gear, and even uncover hidden layers within each biome, discovering clues that will unlock mysteries about SOL Shogunate’s rich backstory.

Sol Shogunate does not have a release date as of yet, so it is hard to say how long it will take before we get to start slashing our way across the Lunar Glass cities, though Costantini does state it is in the early stages of development. While we also don’t have a full picture of platforms, the trailer, which was posted by PlayStation on YouTube, was captured on PC, possibly meaning it will have a dual launch, as Sony moves further in that direction, given the success of other published titles like Stellar Blade on PC.
