Avowed Announced For PlayStation 5 Next Month

Developer Obsidian has announced today that Avowed will be the next title from Xbox Game Studios to cross the console line and release on PlayStation 5. This announcement came during an interview given during the New Game+ Showcase, where developers from Obsidian stated that their 2024 Fantasy RPG would be releasing on the PlayStation 5 on February 17, coinciding with the release of the game’s promised anniversary update, which is coming to all platforms.

The anniversary update will contain a number of long-requested features for the title, including a new game plus and photo mode. In addition to that, players will now get three new races to choose to play as (Aumaua, Orlan, and Dwarves), a new weapon type, the ability to change appearance later on in the game, and a number of other upgrades that people have been asking Obsidian for.

Preorders are set to go live today, with the update being free for players who already own the title or are buying it now. Avowed, while not the best RPG to ever release, was a competent title from the developer behind The Outer Worlds, which the game shares some bones with. In it, players take the role of an envoy to a vibrant place known as The Living Lands, only to get embroiled in a web of political intrigue, as one does in a fantasy world.

Avowed is just the latest in a growing list of titles that are set to release on the PlayStation 5, bucking the exclusivity convention of first-party games. Forza Horizon 6, for instance, which is set to be showcased at the Xbox Developer Direct next week, was announced with a PlayStation 5 version of the game set to release sometime after it releases on Xbox and PC. This is similar to how the company handled the release of their action title, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was released for PlayStation 5 in 2024, only a few months after releasing on Xbox and PC, with it already having been announced that it would.

2026 will also see the first time Halo, Microsoft’s flagship series that originally launched alongside the first Xbox, will release on a PlayStation console with Halo: Combat Evolved Remastered, though there is no official date as of yet.
