Game Freak shocked a lot of gamers while, in the buildup to Pokémon ZA they also announced Beast of Reincarnation, a high fidelity title for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The title, which looked similar to Capcom’s series Monster Hunter at first glance, was given very little context beyond what could be expected. During the Xbox Developer direct we got another, much deeper look at what is actually going on in this gorgeous new IP.
Beast of Reincarnation is set in a post-apocalyptic future version of Japan, where the world is overrun by a parasite known as the blight. This manifests itself in the world through the plants and shrubbery that have grown over everything. The player takes the role of a girl by the Name of Emma, along with her partner, a wolf-like creature named Koo, as the two find themselves fighting the monsters of that world to survive.
Described as a “one-person one-dog action RPG” the core gameplay is built around this idea. The game does have some larger monsters, known as Nushi, that have a similar combat aspect to larger Monster Hunter enemies. The combat and exploration itself offer a range of ways to interact with the world. Players can adopt a more stealthy approach to clear enemies without initiating combat or use ranged weapons to fight at a distance. The core gameplay offers a mix fast paces attacks and strategic dodges/blocks that allow for a rapid flow in combat.
There also looks to be numerous skills that Emma can unlock, allowing players to tailor the combat more closely to what feels comfortable to them. Koo will also take part in combat, with Emma being able to order the wolf to do attacks like one that was showcased, which binds enemies to allow for her offense. The relationship between Emma and Koo will take center stage, with upgrades along the skill tree allowing the combat interactions between the two to become refined over time.
Beast of Reincarnation does not have an official date, but was announced to be coming sometime in the Summer of 2026. It will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. It will also be a day one with Xbox Game Pass title.
