Coming as a surprise during the Summer Games Fest, a sequel to the fast-paced action title, Stellar Blade, was showcased and announced. Entitled Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, we knew that developer Shift Up was building towards a sequel after the success of the first one, but it wasn’t clear that we would be getting a look so soon. Shift Up has another title in development, known as Project Spirits, which is supposedly aiming for a 2027 release date, which would have made sense as the project to be showcased.
While it was confirmed that Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is, in fact, set in the same universe as the original game, the trailer showcases a vastly different location. The game is still set on Earth, but it trades the barren and desolate landscapes for an urban and sprawling cyberpunk city. The title will also feature a new protagonist, a short-haired female character named Evie, though her moveset and outfit feel at least somewhat reminiscent of Eve.
The trailer itself states that it is captured on PC and is, in fact, in-game footage. At one point, we do see the lead character appear to be controlled as she walks along a platform filled with people, but the early portion of the trailer is cinematic in nature, very akin to the first game. Later on, we do see some combat footage, with Evie using melee combat that has an electrified charge. It is also seen that smashing characters into walls has an environmental effect. One of her gauntlets also features a hidden blade, though how that factors into combat is unclear.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain did not receive a release date or release window during the trailer, and was stated to be in early development. No consoles were mentioned, but Shift Up recently made clear we can expect multiplatform releases from them in the future, with Sony no longer acting as publisher.
