Urban Open World RPG Ananta is finally stepping out of the shadows to give a sprawling new look at its ambitious open world at Gamescom.
Taking the world by storm when it was originally announced back in 2023, Ananta appears to be ready for primetime. On August 25, Ananta will have a special presentation at gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live. Hosted by The Game Awards showman Geoff Keighley, this urban open-world RPG is ready to cause some waves.
Since the announcement, gameplay videos have surfaced showcasing its various features. A prominent one, for example, shows seamless character switching, zooming out and in throughout the city a la GTA V. Another showed a more surprising interaction, in which an anime character is swinging across a city much like Queens’ own Spider-Man. Players can also interact with citizens much like Spidey does in his Insomniac games.
Among the various activities available to players, Ananta seems to spare no expense. Skydiving, driving, playing sports, going to the gym, and so much more are some of the many options on offer. It has been radio silent for several years after its reveal. Fans who have been eagerly awaiting to get their hands on the game might not have to wait much longer.
As the game industry braces for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, a crop of urban anime games has started to crop up. Neverness to Everness is one that we praised during its reveal but has stumbled along the way with its new updates, rather lacking in content. Only time will tell if Ananta will be a worthy competitor in the live service space or not.
Ananta is launching on PS5, PC, and mobile. A release date is still in the works. Ananta will have a special presentation at gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live on August 25.
