In yesterday’s State of Play deep dive, Phantom Blade Zero showed more of its thrilling Wuxia combat guided by its creative consultant Donnie Yen.

Gearing up for its launch on October 29, Phantom Blade Zero was the subject of PlayStation’s latest State of Play. Introduced by kung fu legend Donnie Yen (IP Man), developer S-Game revealed more of its systems in the dark wuxia action game. Set in the Chinese-inspired world of Wulin, its protagonist, Soul, will encounter desperate citizens in need. Left with exactly 66 days to live, he must make the most of it to exact revenge on those who betrayed him.

Giving a further glimpse into what players can expect, the gorgeous natural scenery and Chinese landmarks are brimming with treasure. Aiding different people will yield various results, from the expected gameplay rewards to new story paths that allow for a more profound understanding of this cutthroat world. Featuring over 30 weapons and 25 secondary weapons, Phantom Blade Zero is an adventure with plenty of flexibility in regards to combat.

The extended look offered a rich volume of biomes and ways to engage with enemies. Some boss fights looked particularly challenging, requiring a player’s complete knowledge of what the gameplay has to show. For those hoping to learn more about certain skills and abilities, the demo assured players that players can reforge items and rearrange their build to whatever suits their playstyle.

Whether that may be a nimble assassin up-close or a silent killer from afar, the game’s many systems incentivize exploration in every sense of the word. To anybody who might have been put off by the decidedly action-packed combat, the video revealed there are three difficulty options from Wayfarer (Easy) onwards to tune the experience to their liking.

About Donnie Yen’s involvement, he lent his likeness, performance, and creative guidance for the character Mo Yuan, bringing gravitas and veracity to the highly anticipated video game. Phantom Blade Zero is out October 29 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
