It has been over a year since the last trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI was released, and given that Rockstar has made it pretty clear they intend to meet the latest release date of November 19th, a big drop of info was always on the horizon. Enter Netflix, forming a deal with Rockstar and Take-Two to exclusively drop a near 30-minute deep dive of content first, before it finally went live on YouTube, which it will be later today.
The deep dive does not feature any developer commentary, keeping the entire showcase focused on the game and gameplay, of which we got a lot. Unfortunately, a lot of what was showcased has been leaked over the past few weeks, diminishing some of the impact of what we got to see, though there is still a lot to dig into.
*The extended Look Deep Dive will be added here once it goes live via YouTube
The trailer opens with dual protagonists Jason and Lucia heading into a gang-run apartment complex to pick up drugs for one of the secondary characters named Boobie. Naturally, by the end of this segment, knowning Grand Theft Auto and drugs, cops and guns are not far behind. We do get a decent look here and throughout at the high-quality NPC designs, an area where developers usually put in less detail to create less stress in the long run. We have actually seen the cap off to this chapter previously, with Lucia escaping through a window and dropping to the street below.
We then get Jason and Lucia getting ready for a rooftop Mixer where they will meet Brian (believed to be voiced by Widow’s Bay and Barry actor Stephen Root), who is one of the mission givers and gives them a mission right on the spot. During Jason’s time in Lucia’s apartment, we learn that fridges will have inventory that you can select from. The in-game television also returns, showcasing a commercial for prescription antidepressants known as Angstipan, as well as a clear parody of the Arby’s fast food chain.
This is before the characters head out of the apartment and go for a lengthy drive in a top down convertable. This is the first signifigant look we get at the crowded and congested streets, as well as Vice City at large, with a lot of detail put into the buildings and objects, as well as a detailed scene of an npce drunk on a bridge. It is not stated if these will be similar to the random events that players could encounter in previous games.
We get some montages of the many crimes players might commit around Vice City, but then the two are waiting in a car for another character, Raul, who they are apparently running a getaway drive for. There is a detailed in-car scene that COULD be in-game rather than just a cutscene, like it plays out, but it is the most detailed moment we have seen in a car fromGrand Theft Auto, probably ever. It is during this segment that we get to see a lot of improvements, man, such as vehicle damage. These missions remain a staple of the franchise, but always feel elevated with each title.
We also get to see a lot of character swapping between Jason and Lucia. According to the deep dive, this is running on a base PS5, which makes the whole trailer feel impressive if this is the quality we see in the final product. Character swapping is fairly instantaneous and smooth, though this deep dive mostly keeps the two leads close to each other, so we will see if that remains when they are half a city away.
After all of that, we do get a montage of several side activities available, starting with something that I have been excited for: airboating through the Everglades, known as the Grassrivers in Grand Theft Auto VI, with a lot of wildlife to see. Jason also plays basketball for a brief portion, while Lucia lifts weights, with muscle mass having been confirmed as a metric in the game for both. Scuba Diving will also be available, with a fairly detailed underwater region shown in the trailer. One of the more interesting vehicle inclusions is the kayaks, which you can paddle along the riverways.
The final portion of the trailer showcases one last mission in which the two leads are tapped to play bodyguard to a businessman who has just flown in, Andres, no relation. Obviously, this starts simple enough until a group of killers arrives and the leads are forced into separate sections to fight. One thing of note is that Jason taps into slow motion to kill some enemies, similar to Michael in Grand Theft Auto V. Lucia, however, is thrown down some stairs and forced into a QTE to survive as a man attempts to choke her. She grabs a gun after breaking free, only to be tackled through an elevator shaft, and the trailer comes to an end.
The crazy part, of course, is that this is Grand Theft Auto VI we are talking about. That means despite seeing all of this, there is still way more to discover when players finally unpack their bags in Leonida and Vice City. Better yet, the wait is almost over. Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
