Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look Coming To Netflix This Month

Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will be premiering on Netflix Later this month. This isn’t the Trailer 3 that everybody had thought was on the horizon; however, it is hard to think anybody will be upset with a Deep Dive into one of the most anticipated new games of all time. The extended look will be available to stream via Netflix on Thursday, August 27, at 12 pm Pacific / 3 pm Eastern / 8 pm UK.

Wait a second, I hear you say. Where does that leave the many fans excited for Grand Theft Auto VI who do not have a Netflix account? Well, don’t worry. After being available on the streaming platform, the extended look will officially premiere on YouTube later the same day at 6 pm Pacific / 9 pm Eastern, still on August 27, and 2 am UK on August 28.

Subscribers to Netflix are already able to set an alert for the upcoming special event over at Netflix.com/GTAVI. The listing also includes this blurb for the event, stating “Coming August 27: See an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6, the next evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series.” Netflix also released a blog post discussing the event. In that the streaming platform states:

The new iteration in the blockbuster series comes 13 years following the debut of GTA 5, the same year that Netflix was beginning its push into original programming. This collaboration represents the next generation of storytelling and content on Netflix.

Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto 6 is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first. It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.

Grand Theft Auto VI is currently slated to release on November 19 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, after seeing several delays. Anticipation for the title has created some disruptions in the industry as every developer scrabbles to release outside of a window in which they compete with it. Back in June, we got a reveal of both pricing and preorder details, with the game’s higher-end $100 version locking locations behind it. This has caused many fans to view the higher-cost version as a complete version of the game, and the lower-cost version as incomplete.

At the time, it was also announced that the game’s physical version would not include a disc, instead having a code in the box. This upset many fans; however, analysts don’t expect this to have any adverse effect on sales. This was expected to have some impact on the industry, with the biggest game of possibly all time not having a physical disc. Only a week later, Sony announced they would be ditching physical disc releases by 2028.
