Everybody’s favorite chainsaw-wielding cheerleader, spreading sparkles and rainbows with every zombie head she chops off, Juliet Starling, is officially set to return in Lollipop Chainsaw: Back2Back. Officially announced during the Tokyo Game Show after previously being teased, the title is set to release on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2027, with her updated look that apparently features an even shorter skirt than the first time.
The original Lollipop Chainsaw debuted in 2012 and has gone on to achieve cult status, something that many titles that No More Heroes developer SUDA 51 has had a hand in. What makes this title interesting, though, is that among the people involved is director James Gunn, who went on to direct the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and now sits as the head of the DC film revival, had a hand in writing the script.
Lollipop Chainsaw: Back2Back will not feature involvement from the team behind the first game, with development being handled instead by the team behind Lollipop Chainsaw Repop, Dragami Games. Repop was released to a mixed reception back in 2024 and, based on the reception to what has been showcased to the public, a similar response might be down the line for this game, with many arguing the title lacked any real polish.
An official blurb for Lollipop Chainsaw: Back2Back states:
Juliet returns, in a brand-new outfit and with even more power, to a rebuilt San Romero, now transformed into ‘Jaredwood,’ a sprawling metropolis built around the film industry. When a mysterious director traps her inside his twisted zombie movie, Juliet must fight alongside her allies, uncover the conspiracy behind the chaos, and stop a new threat posed by the Corrupted Realm zombies.
Footage showcased during Tokyo Game Show 2026 showcases Juliet fighting zombies with her chainsaw, smacking them with pom poms, and zipping around the streets using her newly introduced roller skates. A lollipop chainsaw anime is also in development; nothing further was stated about that yet.
