Polyarc, a developer founded by ex-Bungie developers, has had success in the VR space with two well-received third-person titles named Moss. Now, for the reason of the players who haven’t been able to enjoy the adventures of the mouse named Quill, owing to the requirement of a VR headset, a collection of both games, named Moss: The Forgotten Relic, with no headset required to play.
The puzzle-solving adventures of Moss are due to release this summer, though no official release date has been given at this time. What we do have is an announcement trailer for the collection, as Quill explores ruins and forests, solving challenges along her way.
Speaking on this Moss: The Forgotten Relic, Polyarc cofounder and designer Danny Bulla stated:
Our team has a deeply personal connection with the world and characters of Moss. With The Forgotten Relic, we’re excited to invite players into Quill’s journey to share the wonder, mystery, and heart at the center of Moss
The forgotten Relic, both “enhances” and “reimagines” the original Moss, which was released in 2018, as well as Moss: Book 2, its 2022 sequel. These versions will not feature a VR version of the titles for platforms that can support that, simply offering a flatscreen version of a game. Given that the original experience was presented in third-person with players exploring stages like a traditional platformer or puzzle solver, it is hard to imagine that any of the charm and wonder of the titles will be lost in this translation.
The best part is that Moss: The Forgotten Relic will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC rather than the limited number of console releases of the two games previously. This should open the series to a much wider audience to enjoy for the first time, or again. The rerelease of VR games for flatscreen viewing continues to be common, given the shrinking of the VR market over recent years. Another game that is made this leap from VR to non-VR is Alien: Rogue Incursion.
