Koei Tecmo America and developer Team Ninja have announced that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, the sequel to the action soulslike title from 2023, will be released on March 4, 2027. Alongside pre-orders, which are set to open, the studio has released a brand-new trailer to showcase the narrative, key characters, locations, and the return of the fast-paced combat of its predecessor. Best yet, a limited-time alpha is now available to download on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC Via Steam and Xbox.
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is set in 208 AD, after the events of the previous game. During this period, the village of the protagonist, as well as their close friend Pang Tong, is devastated by Cao Cao and his forces as they march across the Jing Province. Seeking revenge in a China now plunged into chaos, with demon hordes roaming the land, the protagonist will ally themselves with the likes of Liu Bei and Sun Quan to hunt down Cao Cao, with a plan eventually being formed to repel him at the famous Battle of Red Cliffs.
In an official press release for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, Koei Tecmo states:
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will also offer fans greater freedom through dynamic open fields that recreate iconic battles from the Three Kingdoms era, such as the Battle of Changban and the Battle of the Red Cliffs. Players will be able to freely explore these new environments—from fortresses carved into the mountains to strongholds hidden deep in the valleys—whilst overcoming overwhelming obstacles. More than ever before, players will need to raise their morale if they hope to survive in this demon-infested world. Enemy officers can be recruited to their cause, thereby weakening opposing forces, and players will need to employ various strategies on the battlefield to turn the tide of battle.
Players who want to try the game before its March 4 release can download the demo now, with it being available until September 30, 2026. It will provide a look into the early portions of the game, including character customization and the multiplayer, which allows for up to three players. The open field of Changban will be explorable, with players joining forces with Liu Bei, chasing down Cao Cao, and fighting monsters based on Chinese mythology. Completion of the demo will grant players the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet for use in the full game, as well as a survey to participate in.
A deluxe edition of the game will also be available for preorder. This version will include “The base game, Season Pass, and Season Pass Bonus: Creator God Armor Set. The Digital Deluxe Edition also comes with three exclusive bonuses: Digital Artbook, Digital Mini Soundtrack, and Shitieshou Hat.”
Preorders on both physical and digital editions are available now. Again, Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will release on March 4, 2027. It will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Xbox and Steam. It will also be available day one with Game Pass.
