Nintendo held its Legend of Zelda: 40th Anniversary Direct today, offering new information on multiple elements in the series. The show opened with a teaser trailer for The Legend of Zelda movie, which we now know will release April 10, 2027, in addition to the news that tickets for the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will change to a Zelda 40th Anniversary theme. Obviously, though, the biggest news concerns The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, which was given a fairly large deep dive, along with the release date of November 5, 2026.
A showcase of the rebuild from the ground-up remake of one of the most beloved games in the long-running series was then showcased. This began with going over the redesigned Link, as well as his signature tunic with feature details and fabric designs on it, a drastic change from the smooth designs of previous entries. We also learned that Link will have a jump button, which, as explained, is a common feature now but was not included in the N64 version, in which Link would jump by running towards the edge.
Several areas, such as the Great Deku Tree and Hyrule Field, were also shown off with their heightened visuals. This then extended to Hyrule Castle Town, which seems to have gotten the biggest overhaul of all, at least what was shown. Players will no longer have a fixed camera, as it can be freely moved around the area. The area also has bigger crowds in it, with time no longer stopping while you are in the town. Perhaps even more impressive is that areas that were only backdrops in previous iterations are now fully explorable.
After the Deep Dive, we also got some more information on additional features coming to the Zelda Notes feature on the Nintendo Switch App. This app is currently usable with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Here, you can check your accomplishments for a given day and view play stats, with snapshots of your progress saved. The Gossip Quest feature will also make for a fun minigame, finding locations featured in screenshots and going there to earn points to unlock music for the fully playable ocarina featured in the app.
In addition, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will receive two amiibos, one of young Link and another of young Zelda. These amiibos will be available sometime in 2027. This was followed by the announcement of the beautiful-looking Legend of Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2, along with a themed Pro Controller and a themed carrying case. All of these will be available on October 29, 2026.
All of this then ended with a new trailer for the game, offering a better look at elements not shown in the deep dive, like narrative moments, the adult version of Link, and Shiek to name a few. There is a lot to enjoy on offer here, and only a short wait of two months before we can finally return to the Hyrule of our (or at least my) childhood.
