Taito Corporation, a subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings, has announced a port of the classic JRPG series Lufia. Lufia 1 & 2: The Sinistrals Saga will feature the first two games in the series and is slated for release sometime in 2027. The publisher, Clear River Games, has also confirmed that the collection will have a physical console release, though official prices have yet to be announced.
The series was originally released for the SNES by developer Neverland, with the Taito Corporation serving as publisher. The collection will include Lufia & The Fortress of Doom, originally released in 1993, as well as Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, which was released in 1995. In actuality, the second title serves as a prequel to the first game, with both featuring a group of god-like beings known as the Sinistrals as the primary antagonists.

Lufia & the Fortress of Doom
The first game tells the tale of a young man – the descendant of a legendary hero – and a young woman, burdened by the weight of destiny.
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals
The prequel tells the story of Maxim – a young man who would later be hailed as a hero of legend – and his companions and their battle against destiny.
The collection has been announced to be a pixel-faithful recreation of both classic titles, preserving the classic 16-bit art, while adding enhancements to gameplay features along with script rewrites from original game designer Masahide Miyata. As for all of the enhancements to gameplay, the studio has not gone into specifics at this time, though popular features to enhance retro RPGs include things like save states and fast-forward options.
This is the latest in a long line of classic titles to make a return on modern consoles, with other games like Lunar, Grandia, and Suikoden to name a few. Square Enix has also announced Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies Unite, a complete remake of the 1995 game, following a standard set by the remake of the previous game in that series.
Lufia 1 & 2: The Sinistrals Saga will again be released in 2027. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
