Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth title in Capcom‘s long-running survival horror series, received a brand new gameplay trailer during Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2025. The trailer continues the trend across the last few games in the series of keeping the narrative a mystery, focusing on the new protagonist for the game, Grace Ashcroft, as well as her mother, one of the protagonists of Resident Evil Outbreak, Alyssa Ashcroft.
What we do know about Resident Evil 9 Reqium is that Grace Ashcroft becomes an FBI agent at some point following the murder of her mother at Wrenwood Hotel. The trailer appears to offer what is most likely the prologue to the game, with Grace and her mother at the Wrenwood, hiding from some dangerous force when the lights in the hotel cut off, and as the two attempt to flee.
The gameplay in the trailer is presented in first person, though Capcom has confirmed that players will have a choice of whether to play the game in the first or third person perspective. This is a feature that Capcom had added to Resident Evil Village via a free update, having previously made the new titles in the main series first-person and remakes of previous games third-person, such as Resident Evil 4. Despite this, multiple games in the series, such as Resident Evil 4, have received a free VR update, allowing for a first-person perspective through the use of PS VR. The prevailing thought is Resident Evil Requiem will receive a VR mode as well; however, as of yet, there has been no confirmation.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to release on February 27th, 2026, and will be available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
