The latest mobile Release from Square Enix, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, might be set to release on at least PC, according to an interview with producer Naoya Matsumoto. This topic came up during an interview he had with Siliconera, in which several aspects of the title, which saw an official release on March 24, 2026, were discussed.
In particular, the topic was raised while discussing the title’s use of the vertical screen on most mobile devices, and asking if this might rule out a PC release. Matsumo stated:
We chose the vertical screen so that players can comfortably enjoy not only the gameplay but also the communication aspects of the game.
Before going on to address a potential port, saying:
This constraint does not make a PC version impossible. While we cannot provide specific details at this time, we are currently exploring the possibility of a PC version.
This at least suggests that a PC version of the title is something the team plans to attempt, whether or not it sees fruition. Multiple mobile games have been released on Steam, only tweaking a minor amount of the presentation for a PC user, such as Umamusume: Pretty Derby, which won multiple awards last year. Other companies like miHoYo have found success making large-scale experiences like Zenless Zone Zero and Genshin Impact that can be played across mobile and console, even having cross-play across a single account playing in multiple locations.
Square Enix has invested heavily in mobile gaming over the past decade, with some mixed results overall, with sunsetting of these titles after the fail to maintain high profits being a common practice. Such was the fate of games like Neir: Reincarnation and Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia. Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, a battle royale spin-off of the remake of the seventh mainline entry of the series, would have benefited from a release on PC or consoles alongside its mobile port, being a relatively fun game but with a limited audience.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is the latest in a series of spin-off games that focus on fast-paced fighting and multiplayer. The title features players choosing between a roster of familiar characters from the franchise as they race to defeat a boss-like enemy that should be familiar to Final Fantasy Fans. The most interesting twist this time comes from the aesthetic, reimagining characters with more modern, urban looks, with the game being set in Tokyo.
Dissidia Final Fantasy first premiered in 2008 on the PlayStation Portable Handheld, receiving a sequel on the same platform in 2011. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT would release in arcades in 2015, later being ported to PlayStation 4 in 2018.
