Rounding out the Summer Games Fest, and following shortly after the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series, Square Enix has announced the third act of the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Revelation. With the first two games in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy following the completion of the first disk of the original game, this last entry will cover the narrative of both disk 2 and 3, up until the conclusion of the story.
The trailer for the game showcases several iconic elements from the original game, opening with the High Wind, a flying ship that the characters will use to traverse the open world. While players briefly got to travel the interconnected open areas of the previous game by boat near the tail end, this game promises players will get full access to their world map fairly early on, with it being much bigger than the previous iteration. Furthermore, players will be able to fly over locations and parachute down to the open world below.
Another major element that will finally make an appearance is the weapons, which served as ultra-powerful bosses in the original games. While these enemies were mostly optional, serving as the hardest challenge on offer, it is unclear from the trailer if these enemies will serve similar roles, as bosses that are fought at multiple points, or as a challenge to overcome through the story. They do, however, look as bombastic as fans of the series were probably hoping for
Combat also appears in the trailer, showcasing not only several refinements made from the previous entry but also the inclusion of the two remaining party members, Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine. There is also a new class-like system in which you can equip characters with a new look that changes up their gameplay in line with that.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation does not have a final release date, but it was announced for Spring 2027. Best yet, the game is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, marking Square Enix’s full return to multiplatform Final Fantasy releases.
