Gundam fans were treated to an unexpected announcement at Summer Games Fest 2026 by way of the reveal of a new game in the Gundam franchise, “Gundam Rogue Orbit”. The above trailer gave players a small glimpse into this fascinating new game, which appears to involve an entirely new and distinct Gundam timeline for fans to enjoy. This has been confirmed through an official press release from Bandai Namco, which states that Gundam Rogue Orbit “introduces a brand-new timeline in the Gundam Saga where humanity must fight for survival against an unknown threat”.
The trailer depicts what appears to be extremely high-paced action, and the Gundam that players will pilot appears to be extremely versatile in the actions it can take to dispatch foes. Players will be expected to combat a wide variety of enemies, including massive hordes and bosses the size of kaiju, with battles taking place in open fields of combat.
Very little detail was provided with regard to the story. Posts from Bandai Namco indicate that the players will take the role of an ace pilot named Re-X and the Gundam Helix. No name has been given for the female character depicted in the trailer, though it is likely such details will be provided in the coming months.
Gundam Rogue Orbit will be launching for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and S at some point in 2027. As a diehard Gundam fan myself, I can’t wait to explore this new timeline and see all that it has to offer. I am also extremely curious to see more of this unique take on a Gundam design.
