Management sim Planet Zoo 2 developer Frontier Developments has decided to celebrate World Conservation Day with a deeper look at one of the sequel’s Conservation Reserves. When the title was announced earlier this year, we learned that, amid the many changes coming to the zoo management game would be a further emphasis on both the environmental and ecological impact of your zoo. This includes ecosystem restoration, the restoration of animal habitats, and the new Wildlife Reserves that players can fully customize, so animals can live in their natural environment.
The trailer released showcases the Scottish Highland reserve in particular, one of the many the player will be able to interact with, in which multiple animals will live in peace and tranquility together. Similar to the zoo, these areas require the player to add elements while gauging the happiness of the animals living on these reserves to make sure they are well taken care of. In addition, these areas are useful for ecological reserch, which will unlock functions for the player’s main zoo.
The trailer itself offers very little in the way of gameplay or explanation of how these locations will function in terms of gameplay. Instead, it offers a peaceful look at animals in their nature enviorment, punctuated by babbling brooks, the wind through trees, and animal noises. Given that one of Planet Zoo‘s best features is the Orbit camera, which allows the player to lock on to track animals closely as they go about their day, this environment promises many possibilities and applications for that.
Planet Zoo 2 is set to release on October 13, 2026, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. It will cost £39.99/$49.99/€49.99 for the standard edition of the game and £54.99/$64.99/€64.99 for the Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition comes with 6 additional species as well as exclusive scenery, while players who preorder the game will get a bonus pack featuring Toucan Eat Shop and Signage, 3 Unique Animal Donation Bins, and Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall.
