Following Frontier Developments’ changing of the game’s YouTube profile yesterday, the developer has now confirmed that Planet Zoo 2, the follow-up to their zoo management sim of the same name, is coming this year. More specifically, the title is slated to release on October 13 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, nearly seven years after the original game welcomed players young and old.
Announcing Planet Zoo 2, Frontier stated that the sequel was a “generational leap forward in animation and animal behaviour,” and would feature improved visuals. The title was also stated to feature a much wider focus on the act of conservation, with players helping to restore natural habitats and, hopefully, fully release animals back into the wild.
While Planet Zoo did not have a focus on fish or birds (semi-aquatic animals like penguins later saw inclusion through DLC), the sequel will rectify this with a selection of these animals. Aquatic animals confirmed so far include black-tipped reef sharks, hawkbill turtles, and several different shoals of fish. Birds that will see inclusion include the Toco Toucan and the Secretary Bird.

As with the previous game, success will come down to balancing the various needs of your animals and purse, to create a successful zoo that brings in plenty of customers. Of course, this is often easier said than done, as the title can get pretty in-depth with just how much control and requirement there is when achieving this goal
Planet Zoo 2 will cost $49.99/£39.99/€49.99 at launch, with pre-orders open now. Players who preorder get several exclusive bonuses, including the Toucan Eat Shop and signage, three unique Animal Donation Bins, and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall. A deluxe edition will also be available at $64.99/£54.99/€64.99 and will feature six additional species, though details of which have yet to be announced. If you are not ready to commit to the deluxe edition, a digital upgrade is available so you can choose to purchase the content if you find you are enjoying the game.
