Cassette Beasts 2002, the sequel to the well-liked monster-catching indie title from 2023, has announced that it will launch sometime in March of 2027. We got this release window in a new trailer that was released during the Xbox Showcase at Gamescom. The title is still being developed by Bytten Studio, with Raw Fury serving as the publisher.
The series draws heavily from Nintendo’s Pokémon series, having been released before Palworld, which is an interesting note given the legal recourse Nintendo has sought against the latter. The title follows a player character and their companions, who gain the ability to turn into beasts with their cassette player. Despite the player taking on these farms, there is still a monster-farming element to collecting the powers.
The trailer that was showcased gives a good sense of the scope of exploration, represented by pixel sprite characters in a 3D world with depth of wandering. Once a character and an enemy collide, combat then takes place on a separate screen, with gameplay using a turn-based combat system. We also get a good sense of the characters that will be met along the way, along with the voice acting provided for them, listing off voice actors as the trailer goes on.

Cassette Beasts 2002 is a retro-inspired, creature-collector, turn-based RPG set in Nodnol, a nostalgic ode to 2000s London. Players explore the worlds where man and beast collide to uncover an occultist’s plot and transform into over 250+ beasts. Cassette Beasts 2002 offers an exciting journey for returning fans, but also serves as a perfect entry point into the world of Cassette Beasts. Challenging battles and unique beasts await players.
For players excited to polish off their cassette player and take a trip to the past, Cassette Beasts 2002 is looking like a good time. It will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. This will be the first time the franchise is available on PlayStation, with the previous title having skipped the platform.
