CD Projekt has confirmed that they are targeting a 2028 release window for The Witcher IV. This announcement comes via a special message released by the joint chief Executive Officer of CD Projekt Red, Michał Nowakowski, Nowakowski is heading off to Gamescom this week to showcase The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – Songs of The Past, the first DLC for the award winning game in over a decade, which is set to release next year.

In addition to that, Nowakowski confirmed The Witcher IV would not be present during Gamescom 2026. He stated:

Our team here at CD Projekt Red HQ is hard at work on a brand new saga, one with Siri at the helm. We have more than 500 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you. The Witcher 4 features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay, and a deep, impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time. Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.

Now I know you’re eager to learn when it’s coming. That’s the question we’re hearing from you all the time. So while we’re not showing The Witcher 4 at the event, and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this: The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window.

I know it’s a bit of a wait and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait. Until then, there will be plenty more of The Witcher to come, including Songs of the Past when it launches in 2027. And you can be sure gamescom is also in our plans for the coming years.

Songs of the Past is aimed to help bridge the gap between the previous entry and this upcoming one, giving players one last outing as Geralt before he passes the riegns to new protagonist Ciri. Fool’s Theory, the team that is also working on a remake of the original game in the series, is developing the title, with the DLC only slated to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, leaving the previous generations of consoles behind.

The Witcher IV, for its part, its the start point of a new trilogy of Witcher games staring Ciri that the studio is developing. Previously it was stated that the development team what to release all three games in the trilogy within 6 years of The Witcher IV‘s release, suggesting we could see V by the year 2031 and VI by 2034 if everything goes right.

Elsewhere in CD Projekt has several other titles in development as well. Cyberpunk 2 is currently in the pre-production phase, with some information concerning it having been revealed. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, the follow up to the critically aclained anime, is also set to premier on Netflix on October 20, 2026. The Flame In The Flood developer Molasses Flood, aquired by CD Projekt in 2021, is currently developing a game set in The witcher universe that will feature single-player and multiplayer elements. The studio also has a new, independantly funded IP, known as Project Hadar in development.
