Closing out the first of two State of Play events held today, Square Enix showcased another lengthy trailer, complete with a deep look at the gameplay, for Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Before the gameplay was showcased, however, we got an answer to the most burning question concerning the game: when we will be playing it. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is officially set to release on April 8, 2027.
The final act of the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Revelation builds on the world introduced across both previous chapters. Players will get access to the Highwind fairly early into the narrative, giving them the ability to fly across the entire scope of Gaia. When finding a new location, you will be able to fly over it and then leap down, parachuting to any location you want, including new places like Yuffie’s hometown, Wutai. The entire party from the original VII will be available from the beginning as well, with players being able to switch parties and take the role of any character in your roster for exploration.
We also got a much better look at the fits system for combat. Each character gets four roles that come complete with an outfit shift that allows characters to take more specialized approaches in combat. This is mixed with elements like the previous game, such as the synergy abilities, adding even more depth to the already solid combat action oriented combat from the previous entries.
One of the more interesting features is the ability to take on a quest with any cast of characters, something that made the original title something special. The characters you have with you will change the dialogue for quests, creating a unique experience for players to take part in. Elements like Queen’s Blood, the card game from the previous entry, will also return with a new narrative focusing on Red XII, rather than Cloud. We will also see more Final Fantasy VII extended universe characters appear, though the trailer only showcased Cissnei, who appeared in the previous entry has been showcased at this time.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will once again release on April 8, 2027. A trilogy version, featuring all three entries in the remake trilogy, is available for preorder now. The title will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, marking the first multiplatform day-one release.
