With Marvel’s Wolverine only a few weeks away from release, a few releases are coming next year that Sony is starting to shift focus to. One of those games is Until Dawn 2, the sequel to the 2015 narrative-choice horror game, being developed by Firesprite. During the State of Play today, not only did we get a new trailer for the game, but we also learned that the title will actually be releasing early next year on January 28, 2027. Preorders for the title will open up on September 10, 2026.
Interestingly enough, the trailer for Until Dawn 2 starts with the cast of new characters visiting the snow-covered Blackwood Pines Sanitorium. For players familiar with the series, this location factored heavily into the first game, with players exploring it while trying to uncover the mysteries that are plaguing them. It appears to be a Windago, one of the primary dangers of that first game, with a similar quick-time prompt to that game as well. We know that these characters are viral ghost hunters faking their encounters, so it would be interesting to see how this factors in, as it appears to take place before the bulk of the game on Akishima Island.
After this when get an introduction to the characters, with the game apparently set in a world where ghost hunters get announced like WWE stars. Nothing weird there. These introductions, though, serve to contextually introduce these characters to the choices they will need to make throughout the game. These start with some less life-threatening ones, like demanding the medium sacrifice a chicken during a film take. These seem minor now, but if the first game was any indication, some of these can lead to real consequences later on.
They show indicators on the screen in the trailer for choices, but I will be honest, I’m not sure if that will be how they are presented in the game. More than choices, though, some button prompts were showcased for several scenes, with a lot more of the dark narrative that feels like an old-school horror flick being shown as well.
Until Dawn 2 will once again release on January 28, 2027. It will be a PlayStation 5 Exclusive.
