After promising earlier this year that we would get another look at the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, being developed by Insomniac Games, that look came at the front end of Sony’s State of Play event. While we have gotten an in-game look in a prior trailer, this deep dive showed off a vertical slice of gameplay in which Wolverine raced to save a group of mutants in an enemy encampment.
The trailer opens up, showing us the titular character entering the base through a stealth segment. Obviously, Wolverine can kill enemies as he sneaks through, which shows off just how brutally he dispatches his foes, slamming his claws through them with copious amounts of blood. He then breaks stealth for a more action-oriented scrimmage.
The second portion of gameplay is much more action-oriented and showcases one such psychic-powered character that our titular hero teams up with against a group of foes. The two use their abilities to kill enemies, occasionally in tandem as they fight over the mutants who are loaded into the back of a truck. Again, tons of blood, but the environment can also be used to your brutal advantage, such as slamming a character into a forklift.
Following this, they showcase a sequence that feels very similar to that of Uncharted, with Wolverine driving a motorcycle onto a train to save these mutants, fighting his way across the top as trucks pursue. The trailer ends with Wolverine leaping at one of these pursuit trucks, before a sizzle reel showcases additional characters that you can expect to see along your journey, as well as more of the game’s brutal action.
Marvel’s Wolverine will be built to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5 console, which it will launch exclusively on September 15.
