During the Final 8 mainstage finale of the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising event on the main stage of EVO 2026 (congratulations to Kojicoco on his back-to-back EVO championships in the title), developer Cygames made several announcements concerning the title. As one might expect, as something common at EVO, we did get a look at the next DLC character coming to the game during the season 2, Id, who will release on September 17th. The powerful swordsman will bring a mix of fast-paced rushdown attacks, mixed with powerful screen-controlling draconic powers that are sure to mix up the competition upon his release.
ID is set to release alongside the Version 2.60 update. The update itself will bring along with it a new stage, the Ainsteddo Archipelago, included in the update. There will also be a host of new system mechanics, as well as long-term balance adjustments made to several characters. These updates were not outlined in great detail, but more information was promised at a later date.
The biggest announcement made, though, even more than Id joining the fray, is that Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17th as well. At present, it is available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. The Switch 2 version will include, at base purchase, all 40 DLC characters, including Id when he releases on the same day. It will also include local communication and multiplayer support, allowing for matches even on the go.
This isn’t the only title in the Granblue Series set to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2 either. Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is set to release on the platform on July 9th. Players who get that title on the platform and then get Rising will receive a save link bonus for exclusive items like a weapon skin for Id, and a Lyria lobby avatar.
