Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arc System Works have announced that the tag-fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will hold an open beta. An open beta was announced back in June, alongside the reveal of the final team being featured in the game, Samurai Outriders, during EVO 2026. The title has had two closed betas before this over the last year.

In a PlayStation Blog post, it was announced that the open beta will begin on July 24, at 12:00 am PT / 8:00 am BST / 4:00 pm JST, and will run for a full 72 hours until  July 26, 11:59 pm PT / July 27, 7:59 am BST / 3:59 pm JST. Access will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Players who want to participate simply need to go to their preferred digital storefront, find the option for the open beta, and then begin downloading. Preloading will begin two hours prior to the beta going live, with a PlayStation Plus account not required, though you will need an internet connection.

The beta will feature 15 of the 20 playable characters that will be available at launch. You can check the full roster of accessible heroes below:

    Fighting Avengers

    • Captain America
    • Iron Man
    • Black Panther

    Unbreakable X-Men

    • Storm
    • Magik
    • Wolverine
    • Danger

    Amazing Guardians

    • Spider-Man
    • Ms. Marvel
    • Star-Lord
    • Peni Parker

    Samurai Outriders

    • Ghost Rider
    • Blade

    Knights of Doom

    • Doctor Doom
    • Magneto

Six stages will also be available to battle across with your team of fighters. The stages are listed below:

    • Marvel’s New York (Day)
    • Savage Land
    • X-Mansion
    • Knowhere
    • Wakanda
    • Marvel’s New York (Night)

The beta while feature access to several modes that players can enjoy, starting with both ranked and casual online matches. There is a local versus mode as well to challenge a friend on the same console or pick up some matches against the CPU. The open lobby hubs will also be accessible, which will feature miniature versions of the stages and characters that you can explore between matches. There are 16 unique avatars for this mode, along with preset messages, stamps, emotes, and arcade cabinets to challenge other players.

For players looking to maximize their time in the beta, in preparation for the full launch, there are several practice modes that can be accessed. This includes an interactive tutorial designed to introduce the main mechanics, as well as trial matches to put your newly learned skills to the test. A training mode will also be available, allowing for the practice of combos and characters across a wide range of scenarios. If this isn’t your thing, the beta will also feature the first three chapters of the Amazing Guardians storyline featured in Episode Mode.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be available on August 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC.
