Helldivers II will be receiving a Warhammer 40,000 Legendary Warbond later on this year, as announced at Warhammer Skulls 2026, fulfilling one of the most requested crossovers that fans have been clamoring for. Since the release of Helldivers II, a title that explores ultra nationalist patriotism through a 4-player PVE experience, players have seen it as a perfect vehicle for Warhammer characters like Astra Militarum or Nacrons, from a sci-fi world that suffers from an equal amount of ultranationalist faction controls.
Obviously, Helldivers II game director Mikael Eriksson agrees with fans, stating that the two worlds indeed do “fit perfectly together,” as well as confirming something I think most of us already assumed, that Arrowhead is “full of die-hard Warhammer fans.” While this should be welcome news to fans, just what this Legendary Warbond will entail has yet to be announced, with more information confirmed for later this year.
Warhammer 40,000 has always been a topic of conversation brought up in interviews with Arrowhead staff. In April of 2025, for instance, IGN had asked Alex Bolle, the production director on Helldivers 2, about the potential of a collaboration between the two bleak sci-fi franchises. At the time, it was claimed that there were discussions being had.
He stated in that interview:
Obviously, Warhammer 40,000 is something that a lot of guys internally love to death. So the devs are discussing, the devs are proposing stuff, and the hype is building. So these are discussions internally that we are having. Warhammer 40,000, I can’t really tell you. Maybe. Who knows? We’ll see!
Back in 2024, the Arrowheads’ own Johan Pilestedt published a list of IPs the studio had interest in that they would “really would love to do a take on,” and of course, Warhammer 40,000 was high up on that list. Other franchises featured were Aliens, Starship Troopers, Terminator, Predator, Blade Runner, and Star Wars. If this collaboration goes well, there is clearly a good list of crossovers we could see in the future. This said, Starship Troopers saw a game based on their IP released in 2024, Starship Troopers: Extermination, which could make a collaboration between the two more challenging, given the similarities between the two franchises.
