Sony has announced the latest game to be getting a Limited Edition branded controller from the company, similar to the likes of Ghost of Yotei and God of War: Ragnarok prior. The franchise is PlayStation’s signature racing series, Gran Turismo, which last saw a release on the PlayStation 5 with Gran Turismo 7 back in 2022. The controller is being released not for one specific title in the series, but to help celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
As described via the PlayStation Blog, the controller will feature “racing stripes and motorsport-inspired graphics,” which will then be paired with “a textured, carbon-fibre-style front plate, bringing elements of automotive design and performance to the controller.” On the left handle of the controller, it also proudly displays the number 30 for the anniversary, with the other handle having the game’s logo on it, with some other phrases scattered about.
CEO of Gran Turismo developer Poliphony Digital, Kazunori Yamaushi, spoke about the new controller as well. He Stated:
Thirty years ago, Gran Turismo began with a vision to share the beauty and joy of the automobile. This commemorative controller celebrates the journey we have shared together, and I am deeply grateful to everyone whose passion continues to inspire us
This new controller will be available in limited quantities across select retailers and PlayStation Direct. It has a recommended retail price of $84.99 USD/ ¥12,480 (including tax) / €84.99/ £74.99. Preorders are set to begin on October 22 through PlayStation Direct in regions where the service is available, and while retailers will also be able to take preorders at some point, the timeframe for them was not mentioned as part of this. The controller will then be available on December 10th, slightly ahead of the 30th anniversary of the franchise, in 2027.
Beyond the controller, Gran Turismo 7 will also be getting the “Spec IV” free update, with the first part releasing today and the second releasing in December. This will include the addition of 12 new cars to the title, two additional circuits, a new “Family” mode, along with various other quality-of-life updates to keep the 2022 title racing on.
