Marvelous has announced new entries in both the Story of Seasons (Formerly known as Harvest Moon in the West) and the Rune Factory series, which began as a spin-off of the former. The company announced the live streams in honor of each series’ anniversary, with Story of Seasons currently celebrating 30 years, while Rune Factory is currently celebrating 20 years, with both still going strong.
Story of Seasons released Pioneers of Olive Town back in 2021, making this next game the first ‘new’ offering in the series in 5 years. That said, the series has released a few remakes in that time, with games like A Wonderful Life and Grand Bazaar released during that time, with the latter of those games being awarded a 9 from Pixel Byte. In my review, I stated:
Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar lives up to its title; it’s absolutely the grandest game the series has ever produced and a perfect love song to everything great about the series, and that drew people into the franchise.
As for Rune Factory, we only recently got a new entry in the series with Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, which was first released in 2025. That title was technically a spin-off of the Rune Factory series, with the last official mainline game in the series also released in 2021. If you are looking for true deja vu, I also awarded that game a 9, stating, “Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is absolutely mind-blowing.”
In fairness, both trailers are stated to be works in progress with very little in the way of actual information. We get a good look at the improved graphics across both games, with the Story of Seasons game having Birds flying over the ocean, which also looks like a strong improvement to the atmosphere and animations. In both cases, we get to see Animals, crops, and topography, and if my reviews tell you anything, that is all I need to be excited.
Currently, we have no release window on either game. The Story of Seasons has yet to receive a subtitle, which isn’t uncommon when they are first announced, but the Rune Factory game is confirmed to be Rune Factory 6 as opposed to another spin-off or a remake.
