Saros has received a new update to the game today, entitled the Zenith Update. Announced last month, the update adds a plethora of new features, but perhaps most importantly, brings a New Game + mode to the third-person shooter roguelike. The update is completely free for all players who own the game to download so they can start the cycle of death and resurrection all over again.
Other features that this new update brings to the game include a boss rush mode known as the boss gauntlet, as well as additional modifiers to adjust the overall difficulty of the game. The game will also see the inclusion of an auto-fire feature that, when toggled, will automatically shoot at enemies when aimed at them. In a PlayStation Blog post, design lead Abebe Tinari discussed the overall goal of this update. He stated:
We had two main goals for this update – add replayability for existing players who had already plumbed the depth of Carcosa, and make the game more accessible so Saros even more people can discover the addictive, explosive, exhilarating bullet ballet gameplay that made Saros one of the highest rated action games of 2026.
Tinari went on to discuss the auto-fire feature’s inclusion, stating:
We know that some players may find it difficult to hold a button down for extended periods of time, so we hope this will help. More broadly, it gives you one less button to worry about during combat, freeing up your brain cycles to hit that dash button at just the right time to avoid taking a hit.
The title’s new boss rush mode will divide the overloads of Saros into different sets, each of which features three bosses from the game. Once the player arrives at the final set, they will be tasked with fighting through a gauntlet of every single boss featured in the game, one after the other. It’s a tall order, but given that the bosses are incredibly fun to fight, it should be a worthwhile challenge.
According to sales figures, Saros has underperformed overall since its release back in April of this year. According to estimates, the title has so far grossed around $30 million against a suspected $76 million budget. This has it tracking slower than previous Housemarque titles, though with the holidays around the corner and this new update, it is possible to see an uptick in the future.
While I wasn’t as impressed with Saros as I was with Returnal, I still gave the title an 8/10 back when I reviewed it. While it never has a moment AS GOOD as that Act II setup in Returnal, there is a lot to enjoy here in the repetition. If you haven’t yet played the game, this could certainly offer more reasons to finally do so.
