Fans awaiting the release of Lego Batman: Legacy or The Dark Knight, the first new Lego Batman in over a decade, are preparing for Spoilers to hit after players who bought the game digitally from Walmart found they were able to download and play the full game. Redditor Dramatic-Track-9935 stated they had acquired a digital code from Walmart, which, when redeemed on their Xbox console, let them download the game. If preloading is available, this is all normal stuff. When they received the “ready to start” message on screen, they found they could fully access the game rather than having to wait for release. Images were published to confirm the claim.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is officially set to launch on May 22, with early access starting on May 19 for owners of the Deluxe Edition. There isn’t long for fans to avoid spoilers before they save Gotham themselves, but as a Final Fantasy fan, I know the struggle can be a real one. Several publications have reached out to both Warner Bros. and Walmart, with neither yet making a public comment.
After this Reddit post gained some traction, others tried to repeat the steps, with a few reporting that they, too, had success and gained full access to the game. One of these people stated they had been able to spend “all night” playing Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, though the game showed a “required update available” message at some point. It appears, based on what some players have said, that they are making use of a trick that requires disconnecting their Xbox from the internet to avoid an update meant to prevent the game from being playable earlier than intended.
At present, it does seem that Warner Bros. Games, developer TT Games, or both have addressed the exploit, though there is still no official word as to how exactly this happened. Either way, the internet is forever, and fans are making sure the community is aware that spoilers are out there. In other news concerning Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, it was reported over the weekend that the PC version of the game quietly saw the addition of DRM software Denuvo, sparking system requirement concerns among fans.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
