Grand Theft Auto VI Gets Pricing Details, Physical Will Not Include Disc

Rockstar announced that preorders for the mega juggernaut Grand Theft Auto VI will begin at midnight on June 25th, giving gamers the rest of today to get their affairs in order before attempting to preorder it tonight. As part of this announcement, we also got a lot more details about what to expect, including the all-important question of pricing that has dominated gaming discourse for the last year.

As it turns out, Grand Theft Auto VI will launch at $79.99 on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. This is a $10 increase from what has been the norm for game costs this generation, but not completely unreasonable. Fire Emblem: Fortunes Weave, for instance, will release at $79.99 as well for its physical version, so the price isn’t well beyond the range games are already set to release at. This generation in gaming has also seen a much wider price range from developers as well.

An Ultimate edition of the title will also be released at $99.99, and will include a range of in-game exclusive items. These items are:

    • ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and Paradise Garage
    • ’95 Grotti Cheetah
    • Vehicles and Vapid Ganado Retro Build at Jason’s Safehouse
    • Vehicle Mod Shops
    • Classic Car Collection
    • Shitzu Squalo.
    • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolver
    • Personalized Weapon Variants
    • PTT Youngin$ Compound and Scores
    • Vice City Styles for Jason and Lucia.
    • Goodtime Gear
    • Stock 305 Clothing Store
    • Sara’s Unisex Salon
    • Electric Fang Tattoo

It appears that the ultimate edition will feature, beyond just exclusive items, some locations and activities that will be absent from the base game without this upgrade. Copies pre-ordered before November 19 will include a Vintage Vice City pack, though physical purchases should not; this is only guaranteed “while supplies last.” It is unclear how much this content will change the overall experience. In addition to that, there will also be bonuses for preordering the title, including:

    • 55 Vapid Stanier and Shore Court Garage
    • Luxury Outfits and Hairstyles

The biggest thing not in this announcement, though, is that while a physical edition of the game will be made available for preorder, it will not contain a disc for the game. Instead, even the physical edition of the title will come with a digital code in a box for Grand Theft Auto VI. Preordering the digital version of the title will also net players a month of GTA+.

Rockstar has stated that at launch, on November 19th, the title will be a ‘single-player experience’. There has been no mention of a Grand Theft Auto Online yet, although it should be noted that the mode did not launch with Grand Theft Auto V either. At least for the foreseeable future, the current Grand Theft Auto Online will continue to operate as the next iteration of the franchise launches.
