Ubisoft has unveiled a new, very different take on its popular Rainbow Six franchise with Rainbow Six Tactics. This will be a single-player title set in the Rainbow Six Universe, switching out the typical first-person shooter style of the series for a more XCOM-like tactical approach. It will be available on Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Ubisoft Connect.

For the first time in the series history, Rainbow Six Tactics puts the players in the shoes of Six, the leader of the elite Rainbow unit. Heading up this team, players will have to make preparations in the team’s HQ before sending four operators into the field to complete high-stakes missions. Ubisoft has stated, “Rainbow Six Tactics captures the core DNA of Rainbow Six while introducing a new way to experience its iconic operators.”

The title will feature 15 operators, all of which previously featured in Rainbow Six Siege. Players will be able to use their specific abilities, reconnaissance tools, gadgets, as well as strengths and weaknesses, to tailor their team of 4 to any mission structure. From there, the units are deployed and take part in more methodical combat when they can be moved across the field and engage with enemies, before returning to base and being trained further. The game will also feature destructible environments for dynamic combat moments and exploration.

In a press release for Rainbow Six Tactics, developer Ubisoft Stated:

Drawing from a roster of 15 operators from Rainbow Six Siege, players will build squads of four operators tailored to their preferred approach. Each operator brings unique abilities, specialized gadgets, and distinct skill trees, encouraging experimentation and strategic team composition. Rainbow Six Tactics’ campaign features dozens of missions set in diverse locations around the globe, and every operation brings its own challenges and opportunities. Hostage rescue, bomb disposal, and target elimination: reaching every objective demands careful preparation, tactical improvisation, and precise execution. Every operation brings its own challenges and opportunities. Hostage rescue, bomb disposal, and target elimination missions demand careful preparation, tactical improvisation, and precise execution. Players can break walls to open new lines of sight, remove enemy cover, and create alternate entry points as the situation evolves. The Breach feature builds on this foundation as a decisive tactical moment: a synchronized assault that breaks the turn-based rhythm and lets all operators act at once as they storm a new area by surprise, combining operator abilities with environmental destruction in explosive Rainbow Six fashion.

Rainbow Six Tactics is being developed by Ubisoft Paris, which served as co-developers on the Mario + Rabbids series, so fans should be confident they know their way around tactical titles. Currently, the title is due out sometime in 2027. This is the first single-player title in the series since Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was released in 2008.
