Nintendo Announces 2 Nintendo Directs For Next Week, With One Being A Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Broadcast

Nintendo has announced two Nintendo Direct events that will be held next week, with one being a dedicated broadcast in honor of The Legend of Zelda‘s 40th anniversary. This comes right before the Tokyo Game Show is about to begin, with that event being held between September 17 and September 21, 2026. With Nintendo typically present there, we could learn more about what they plan to showcase during the event.

Join us next week for two #NintendoDirect presentations!

The Legend of #Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct – Tuesday, Sept 8th at 16:00 CEST (approx. 30 mins)

Nintendo Direct – Wednesday, Sept 9th at 16:00 CEST (approx. 45 mins)

The Legend of Zelda broadcast is set to be held on Tuesday, September 8th at 7 am Pacific / 10 am Eastern / 3 pm UK time and will feature 30 minutes of content. The obvious thing to be showcased during this event is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, which we got a taste of earlier this year. Nintendo has confirmed that the game will be released this year, and there is little time left to build hype if that is the plan.

Following this, a general direct will be held the following day, Wednesday, September 9, at 7 am Pacific / 10 am Eastern / 3 pm UK time, and will last 45 minutes. This direct will then be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse event that will run for 110 minutes, offering further details and deeper looks at the games featured in the direct itself.

There are a few titles that could crop up during the Nintendo Direct that we are at least aware of. Switch Sports Resort is set to launch in October, so we could see a bit more in time for launch. The Duskbloods just recently held a closed beta and has maintained plans to release in 2026. My guess, and it’s barely an educated one, is that The Duskbloods might get a November release date, with Ocarina’s time coming in December. Don’t trust me on that, though; I’m an idiot. We also just recently got a trailer for Xenoblade Genesis, a new game in the Xenoblade series, so maybe some more info is on the cards.

Some other first-party games might make an appearance during this event as well, such as the next Pokémon games, Wind and Waves, which we have only seen a little bit of so far. That said, it is reasonable not to suspect we will see more from them until Pokémon Day, in February of next year. Rumor has it a new Mario game, a successor to the 3D Mario games such as Super Mario Odyssey, is in the works, so maybe we finally see that here

Nintendo has yet to start painting a picture of what 2027 looks like for the Nintendo Switch 2, and while we will obviously be getting some information to round out this year, this gives a good opportunity to start to fill in those blanks. For fans looking towards Nintendo’s immediate future, Fire Emblem: Fortunes Weave is set to release later this month, on September 17.
