Xenoblade Genesis Announced During Nintendo Direct, All Mainline Xenoblade Chronicles Titles Getting Switch 2 Ports

A new title in the Xenoblade series was announced during the Nintendo Direct event in June 2026, though interestingly enough, it will drop Chronicles from the title, offering a new direction in the series. Xenoblade Genesis, as it was titled, is set to release sometime in 2027, though no official release date was given for us during the trailer.

While Xenoblade Genesis has a familiar sense of fantasy to previous entries in the series, it appears to embrace a more traditional fantasy setting rather than the blend of fantasy and technology that is present in other entries. We get to see this new world, which has a power known as Anima flowing through everything from water to wind. We are also introduced to characters who can wield this anime as a form of magic, warriors who are known as Vesseliei.

Players will take on the role of one such character, a pink-haired female character with pointy ears, who we first see being enrolled into the Leuko Academy, a military academy. With war looming on the horizon, the player will participate in this school life, as well as explore the big world around them, honing their skills to rise to the growing threat.

We also learned during the Nintendo Direct that Xenoblade Chronicles 1-3 will all be getting Nintendo Switch 2 ports. Xenoblade Chronicles X, the most recent release and port of the Wii U title, already has recieved a Switch 2 port earlier this year.

All three titles in the series feature 60fps, with 1440p resolution when docked and 1080p resolution in handheld mode. Cutscenes for the titles will also feature enhanced resolutions and framerates. Each game also saw additional content, such as high-speed exploration vehicles in the original game and a new mode in 3.

The digital version and upgrade pack of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition release today, with a physical version coming on July 30th, 2026. The digital version and upgrade pack of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will then be released on July 30th, 2026, with a physical edition releasing on October 1st, 2026. All versions of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will release on December 3rd, 2026.
