Developer Remedy has announced that Control: Resonance will be delayed, affecting the physical launch of the title. While the title is still slated to release digitally for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on September 24, fans who were hoping to get the game on disc will now need to wait until October 15 to finally get their hands on the sequel to the 2019 title.
In a statement posted by Remedy on social media, they stated:
Get ready to unleash Dylan Faden’s paranatural abilities in warped Manhattan on September 24. We need just a little more time to deliver the physical version to you, but rest assured – nothing stays contained forever.
There is a plus side to this, as weird as that may be. In an attempt to avoid the juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto VI, September has become an incredibly crowded release month. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Marvel’s Wolverine are all slated to release in that period. While the digital version is still slated for that window, this delay is a good excuse to get other games done first. Other titles like Valor Mortis have also been delayed out of that window to get more spacing from the heavy rush.
Remedy has focused on pushing Control Resonance, including a trailer for it in almost every gaming showcase over the summer. In an investor call earlier this month, Remedy boss Jean-Charles Gaudechon Stated:
We position Control Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise. In a competitive autumn window, we believe the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out.
This pushes the physical day one back ever so slightly. Alan Wake 2 was only recently announced to have crossed the 3 million sales mark, momentum Remedy is hoping will carry over to Control Resonant. Remedy has a habit of underperforming in sales upon launch, despite typically launching to strong reviews. Alan Wake 2, despite having a strong showing during award season and winning several awards (though ultimately losing out to Baldur’s Gate III to the shock of nobody), would take 2 years before the title was officially profitable.
