Although the betas of Guild Wars 3 begin in Fall 2027, more lore details are already trickling in.
The Guild Wars 3 official website has just revealed more information about what players can expect. Historically taking place before all previous Guild Wars games, this prequel is making the most of a land not ravaged by the Elder Dragons. Guided by narrative lead Aaron Linde, this latest blog post sets the stage for what is to come. It all starts with the guild at the heart of this tale: the Veilwardens.
The continent of Tyria is witnessing a period of rapid change. As the Elder Dragons slumber deeply, magic is flourishing like never before in the lands of Orr. In this period known as the Vael, the unfettered abundance of magic manifested in small gems attracts opportunists and fortune seekers alike. The Order of the Vael is a guild with the goal of protecting the magical wilds of this region. Overpowered by the greed of other guilds over time, the frail Vaelwardens have been all but forgotten, relegated to the annals of history.
Starting 150 years into this turbulent era, players will raise the banner as the last of their order. Exploring a hostile world against industrialists who see it only as resources to strip for parts, the Mavenwrights are among your foremost rivals. Armed with magical signets to defend their honor, players will also develop relationships with spirits called Seekers.
Looking Ahead
The blog post concludes with more information being revealed soon. “You’ll adventure in the legendary lands of Orr at the absolute height of its splendor. Challenge the encroaching forces that seek to dominate it, and determine the course of your guild’s future in an uncertain and unsteady time.”
This extensive worldbuilding is enough to spark interest for any fantasy fan. Developer ArenaNet surely knows how to drum up hype based on their previous work. Prospective players can sign up for the Guild Wars 3 newsletter on their official website. Upcoming betas are planned for Fall 2027.
