Kena: Scars of Kosmora Gets Story Overview, Now Set To Launch In 2027

Kena: Scars of Kosmora is set to launch in 2027, developer Ember Labs has confirmed. The title was announced earlier this February with a 2026 release date featured at the end of said trailer; however, given that we are now in October with no release date on the site, this delay makes sense. Announced via a PlayStation Blog Post, we also got another look at the game, something we have been waiting for since February as well.

In the post, we got an overview of the story, which will feature an older Kena realizing the limits of her power in guiding spirits. It states:

Before the events that unfold in Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Kena long studied as a Spirit Guide – equal parts warrior and spiritual healer. When the dead can’t move on peacefully, dangerous manifestations of their pain infect the environment. Spirit Guides fight back this Corruption to get to the heart of the issue.

Despite her progress, Kena is beginning to see her limits. She’s helped spirits of the dead, but has yet to really explore what Spirit Guiding looks like for the living. Even deeper, she has always helped other people deal with their pain, but not always focused on her own… Her childhood friend Orfio believes the mysterious island of Kosmora holds the answers they’ve both been looking for. Kena sets out to meet him, hoping to discover more about her past and future as a Spirit Guide.

This is what sets protagonist Kena on her eventual journey to Kosmora. Here, the ancient spirit guides of the region have developed their own unique approach, which uses the four elements and the Alchemystic Temples. The region features four interconnected cultures that once thrived, before an ancient cataclysm destroyed one of them.

The island of Kosmora will also be home to a multitude of cultures that each have their own histories, values, and struggles. We know that Kena’s journey will involve trying to heal the scars of this region, with helping the living be a part of this. Just how this plays out has not been fully revealed, but it does signify a drastic departure from the previous game, which was largly solitary save for the many rot spirits that join Kena along her journey.

Even better, Kena will eventually meet an ancient spirit, a crystalline canine companion, who will aid Kena. This will factor into gameplay in multiple ways, with Kena being able to ride the spirit, which comes in handy since the world will be much larger than the one featured in the previous games. Several puzzles will also require the help of the spirit to complete.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora will see players set off on their journey in 2027. It will be available physically and Digitally on PlayStation 5, and digitally on PC.
