Ubisoft has announced that Rayman Legends Retold, the remake of their 2013 platformer, will be delayed by just a few weeks from the date initially planned, October 1st. The publisher announced via social media that while the title had previously gone gold and was expected to meet that date, it is not ready to launch as of yet. Instead, the team behind this game, Ubisoft Montpellier, will now be releasing the game on December 3rd.
We also learned through this announcement that we will be getting a new look at Rayman Legends Retold on September 22, with a game overview trailer. That same day, it was stated that a selection of creators and press will be given and hands on impression for the game. This understandable delay also has the benefitial effect of moving the title out of a very crowded release window, with games like Valor Mortis, Gears of War: E-Day, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 all having loomed just in the future of that date. Not to mention Grand Theft Auto VI being slated for November 19.
Rayman Legends Retold was announced during a State of Play earlier this year, with most of the early previews being positive. A reimagining of the original game, the title no longer uses the 2D sprites of the original, opting for 3D graphics instead. This isn’t just a cosmetic swap, though, as Retold will feature newly added stages that take advantage of the new depth in animation. This is the first Rayman game in around 13 years, with some buzz that more and newer Rayman titles are on the way, so it makes sense that Ubisoft wants to get this right.
Ubisoft already had one strong showing this year with the release of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, a complete remake of the 2013 title. We reviewed the game earlier this year, giving it an 8.5/10 and saying, “Returning to the Caribbean has never felt better, and Ubisoft has not felt this in control in a long time.“
